Held Second Regional Forum named "Energy-aware and efficient"


In the Blue Room of City Hall of Subotica was held second regional forum named "Energy - aware and efficient" on November  13th 2012. The realization of this forum was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the project "Raising awareness about energy efficiency in decision-making at the local level in Serbia", jointly organized by the Permanent conference of Towns and Municipalities (SCTM) and Belgrade Open school (BOS).

During the forum, representatives of the city of Subotica and more municipalities in Vojvodina, officially signed the Charter cities and municipalities of energy efficiency with the representatives of the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities of the United Nations, which local governments are signatories expressed their commitment to the principles of rational energy management.

Miodrag Gluscevic from the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities - League of Cities and Municipalities of Serbia, said that there are a lot of prejudices that energy efficiency is lights off and saving is the expense of comfort and standards.

- That's not true. Energy efficiency is a rational energy management while maintaining and improving the quality of services offered, said Gluscevic.

Maja Matejić from the United Nations Development Programme, said that the project will last three years and working to raise awareness of local decision-making about energy efficiency.

- We are training competent people in the municipalities how to deal with energy efficiency at the local level, primarily to utilities and public facilities, said Maja Matejic.

By the end of the year we will organize two regional meetings in Nis (20 November) and Belgrade (December 4).
