Strengthening Religious and Human Rights for Democratic Serbia
CIRel implemented the Project “Strengthening Religious and Human Rights for Democratic Serbia” with the support of the Delegation of the European Commission in the Republic of Serbia. The project lasted from 11th December 2008 to 11th February 2010. The purpose of this project was to further promote religious rights as one of fundamental human rights, attract public attention to the work of churches and religious communities, especially in the areas promoting direct respect and realization of human rights, including rights to education, health protection, social welfare and security, national and ethnic origin, equality and full participation in cultural life.
Finally, the purpose of this Action was also to promote more joint activities initiated by churches and religious communities on one side, and any subject from public or social life of Serbia (authorities, media, NGOs, etc) that will jointly contribute to democratic reform and conflict prevention in Serbia and support conflict resolution.
Project consisted from the four main activities:
- - National Conference “Churches and Religious Communities and Civil Society for Empowerment of Human Rights and Democracy in Serbia – Recommendations to Authorities and Public”, conductied from 25th – 28th March 2009.
- - Design, Development and Dissemination of the Policy Briefs and Policy Memorandums based on the Conference Declaration.
- - Online course “School of Tolerance: Ethnic and Religious Communities in the Promotion of Human Rights”, for 25 participants from Serbia.
- - Update and maintenance of the web-site Religions of Serbia and the regional web portal Faith–Knowledge–Peace.
