CIRel organized a conference "Religiously motivated activism in regional peace processes"

Center for Religious Studies, politics and society in cooperation with the Center for Religious Studies of the Belgrade Open School, organized a one-day conference for priests, seminarians, religious teachers, NGO activists as well as students and graduates of the social sciences that are involved or have a desire to get involved in religiously motivated peace activism. Conference was held on Thursday, March 20th 2014.

Conference was educational and practical, and attendees had the opportunity to get informed about the concept of transitional justice, the participation of religion in the process of transitional justice in the world, and also to hear a lecture about the regional processes of transitional justice in the Western Balkans.

Attendees were welcomed by Ivana Bartulovic (Center for Religious Studies of the Belgrade Open School) and Dr. Nikola Knezevic (Center for the Study of Religion, politics and society). Participants had a discussion with His Grace Bishop of Lipljan Mr. Jovan Culibrk about “dignity and reverence for the victims through religious perspectives”. Meeting continued with Marijana Toma’s (Fund for Humanitarian Law) teaching sessions, the basic concepts, definitions and mechanisms of transitional justice and Dr. Nikola Knezevic who talked about involvement of religion in the process of transitional justice and reconciliation. At the end of the conference Ivana Bartulovic had discussions with the participants who were able to give suggestions for religiously motivated activism.
