The conference "Accountability of Education"

The conference “Accountability of education” has been held on Friday 12th December, in O3One Gallery. Center for Development of Education gathered numerous experts on the subject and they discussed about accountability of education system towards three different but connected aspects – public, labor market and students.

The conference was opened by Jovana Tripunovic from Center for Development of Education. She presented the initiative “Raising Accountability of Universities in Serbia” and the research on transparency of faculties in Serbia. Participants had the opportunity to hear from Lela Rudic the information about work of Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection and their cooperation with higher education institutions. Dragana Krunic from Agency for fighting against corruption talked about integrity plans of education institutions. She stressed that education institutions are aware of their biggest risks of corruption. As an example of faculty which raised their transparency, Professor Marko Djordjevic talked about the experience of Faculty of Education in Jagodina. Further discussion was devoted to the question of compatibility of higher education institution’s programs and the labor market and its needs. Vitomir Jovanovic for Center for Educational Policy presented the results of CONGRAD project, stressing that more students finish their studies on time now than before the Bologna Declaration was signed. Jelena Manic Radoicic from Career Guidance and Counselling Centre explained how career guidance and counselling advanced employability of youth. Ljiljana Pavlovic from Serbian Association of Employers stressed that enrollment policy of faculties is inadequate and uncoordinated with real needs of labor market.

The conference was ended with the panel discussion about accountability of education towards students. Panelists were Nebojsa Aleksic form Student Conference of Serbian Universities, Branko Spasic, protester in blockade of Faculty of Philosophy, Vladica Maricic, member of Students Parliament of University of Nis and Mihailo Gajic form Center for Development of Education. Attendees had the opportunity to hear personal experience about blockade of faculty, but also the story about SCSU and their role in student’s organizing in Serbia.

Conference was organized as a part of initiative “Raising Accountability of Universities in Serbia”, which supports international center Olof Palme, and implements Center for Development of Education of Belgrade Open School.
