BOS presented policy recommendations for advancing of proactive transparency of state authorities
In partnership with Toplica center for Democracy and Human Rights, BOS organized a conference on 18th May in Media Center Belgrade named “Local Transparency: Local transparency: fight against corruption and prospect for development” as the final activity in the scope of project "Local Transparency Booster: Raising Accountability and Prevention of Corruption in Local Governments". Conference gathered 80 participants, among others Anti-Corruption Agency Serbia, Directorate for eGovernment, donors and civil society organizations.
As a representative of Delegation of EU to the Republic of Serbia, which supports this project, Mr. Nicolas Bizel stressed and important role of civil society organizations in fight against corruption and that the EU will continue to support similar projects. Mr. Milorad Bjeletic, Executive Director of Belgrade Open School, presented the project "Local Transparency Booster: Raising Accountability and Prevention of Corruption in Local Governments", mainly goals and activities in the project.
Ms. Sanja Nasevski, member of the project team, presented the results of the project research of transparency of local self-governments, especially focusing on low transparency level and low level of access to most corruption sensitive data, for example information about budget, public procurement and state aid. She also presented recommendations which Belgrade Open School advocates for advancing the level of transparency and better information booklets of state authorities. As a representative of Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Ms. Stanojla Mandic stressed and important role of this institution in defense of right to information of public importance and support to this project. Mr. Dusko Pejovic, Supreme State Auditor of the State Audit Institution, talked about importance of budget transparency in local self-governments and monitoring role of public. In the name of the project partner, Toplica Center for Democracy and Human Rights, Mr. Dragan Dobrasinovic talked about causal connection between transparency and corruption, from the perspective of Coalition for monitoring of public finances, where Toplica Center is a leader.
Project "Local Transparency Booster: Raising Accountability and Prevention of Corruption in Local Governments” is implemented by Belgrade Open School in partnership with Toplica Center for Democracy and Human Rights, in association with Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities with support of The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia.
